8x8 is great!

In my post the other day I showed a technique called embedding. I had a 2"x2" section remaining and I thought I would try using it in another photo layout in the 8x8 Mosaic Moments Grid format. I took two other photos that I wanted to isolate an image on, printed them in a contact sheet format printing on  4x6 photo paper. Each photo was aproximately 4"x3", then cropped a 2" section of each. Then printed another photo at a true 4x6 and left a two in square in the center of the photo isolating the cabin, uncut. I then mounted that section on a 2-1/8" green mat. along with the other squares and placed at the bottom of the layout.

All the pictures were taken in Cades Cove of the Great Smoky Mts.National Park in Tennesse. The butterflys were actually right outside my car door when I got out to go to the cabin...the horses and flowers from  nearby. This is one of my favorite vacation spots, so refreshing and peaceful.

Another Christmas in July Idea

On Facebook the other day I saw a post from Tombow with this idea that I have recreated here with papers I have from Imaginisce's Candy Cane Lane Collection. I did not ink it to give it the grunge look as in the Tombow sample, as the papers I used already had that look. This is just the bare bones, no extras. If you'd like to make your own I thought a few measurements and photos might help get you started.

Begin with three sheets of 8.5"x11". Cut one sheet in half lengthwise 4.25"x 11 (trim one to 8.5"and the other to 8")  Score at 4" on the shorter piece, and 4" and 8" on the other. This gives you a small flap that you will over lap with a strong tape. For the main folder section you will trim one page to 8.5"x 9" the other 8"x 9". You will score at 4" and 8" on the 8.5" wide sheet and at 4" on the 8" one. I have used light weight tag as my base, but if you have a heavy weight paper cardstock or double-sided cardstock   I'm sure you could work with the one layer.

On the large section you will want to cut and paste your backdrop papers in place before joining the pocket section. Four sections 3-7/8"x 4-7/8" in various patterns. Four sections 3-7/8"x4-1/8". I used a 1/2" tape to connect the overlapped sections. The paper covering the back of the pocket section should come to just under the edge of the pocket.

For the lists: cut four sections that are 3.5" wide x 7.5" tall. Cut lined paper 3"x 7.25. Adhere lined paper to patterned papers. I cut my own tabs and added my labels here instead of taking up space on the lines below. I chose to cover the backside for a finished look, you can leave it plain,  but if you have used double-sided heavy-weight cardstock, you already have that built in!

I attached the two center sections of the pocket section at the bottom of the base first. I then put the tape on the base section for the left and right sections and the sides. I closed the folder to get the right fit of the sections and pressed to adhere then trimmed the slight excess off with my xacto knife. I used a 1/2" wide tape but another time I would use a narrower adhesive, especially on the sides. I only put the tape along the bottom and out side sections, not on each section edge. It is essentially one big pocket, but the way you fold it will hold your lists inside easily. You want each List to slide in and out easily.

I sized this to fit into a #10 envelope so that it could be something you carried with you without wear and tear. It is also able to stand up for display as a seaonal reminder.

You can add stickers, or other embellishments as you desire...have fun!

8x8 Inside-out Page

Today on Tami's Blog she share a quick page challenge to make with the 8"x8" grid sized papers That are now on sale through July 31st at www.snapncrop.com . The technique is embedding and she used two photos. One of her main subject, her lovely daughter Alexis, and the second a view of what Alexis was seeing. You also see this technique on the package cover of the 8"x8"s, a shot I have loved since I first saw it!

So, between loads of laundry, I grabbed a couple of shots from a trip we made to the Smokies in 2010. I got the close up of my daughter with the horse and then a pull back shot of the valley they were in surrounded by the mountains. You will see that I precropped the photo of my daughter. I didn't plan on using any of the surrounding area, so I just saved on the ink.

I used a mat that would cover the four square center section (4.375") and that would complement the colors in the photos. I have a 2" section of the photo that I had cut around in the hopes that I would be able to do another page...maybe between the next load...who knows? It is a very quick and easy method to scrap a favorite photo or event.

And there you have it. Suitable for framing, using in a larger layout, or in a collection of 8"x8" pages to be stored in a beautiful binder,  these We R Memory Keepers Linen albums that are now on sale and have a bonus set of 8"x8" Calendar pages FREE. Sale ends July 31st.

Save The Date: Sale!!!

This baby book was created using Mosaic Moments 8"x8" white grid papers. Tami announced this week an upcoming sale on several of their products, including the 8"x8" papers. Many haven't made it out to the conventions this year, and this sale is a Stay-Vention! So everyone can take advantage of show specials. All the details are here in Tami's July Newsletter. The sale is July 26-29th. Be sure to check out all the ideas over there and see some wonderful new products just for working in the 8"x8" size.

I've shown these type baby books before on here, but this time I employed the  8"x8" grid paper. You get six pages to work with, so I have used plain cardstock on the front and back cover. If you use a pad of paper, like the baby themed DCWV Nursery papers I have used here, you can get a variety of looks and have them all co-ordinate. This pack happens to come with a 4x6 mat that I thought would be perfect to top the cover and be a place to write baby's name and vital statistics. I did add a little bit of bling with crystal gems...not hot fix ones, but the ones with glue dot backings...very simple, something that doesn't take extra equipment.

On the back cover, although not a MM grid paper, I included a few of my extra pieces to add a decorative touch that would carry the style of the other pages to the final page.

The books are made with three pieces of heavy weight cardstock as they are designed to stand for a display. I trim them all to 8" wide. Two sheets will be used at the full 11" length, the center section will be trimmed to 10.5". Usually 10" is enough, but I have added 1/8" per page to allow for scoring and placing the grids with out overhang. It's easy to trim off excess to fit when it's just cardstock, but you want to use all of the grid paper and make it look nice. Score the center section in the middle and the two longer sections score at 8 1/8". tape with Scotch tape the three sections together. then begin attaching your grid paper. If you prefer work the grids in pairs first and then attach. I use a strong adhesive that will hold a lot of weight. This accordian style book has a front and back giving you  three sections for three layouts. They can be as similar or different as you please. This is the section between the front and back cover.

and then the two sections you see if you open it like a book.

I've kept the decorations on this one to a few tags, bows and buttons. You can get more detailed if you pleaase, but I like photos being the focus, a hallmark feature of working with the grid paper. There is spots to journal, others just for color...what you do you in your book, will express you!

Remember that sale...and don't forget to visit www.journella.com to see all the creative works of the design team members, Tami, and a growing number of creative people out there who would like to showcase the work they've done...stop on by!

DeNami July Blog Hop

Welcome to the DeNami Summer Blog Hop!

I hope you are having fun on today's hop, being inspired by everyone's creativity! You should have arrived her from the very talented Wendy Elliot's blog. If not, perhpas you have lost your bearings and want to head back to  DeNami Design Blog   to start at the beginning.

I don't have a lot of specifically summer themed DeNami stamps, so after some debate I chose what was for me my latest aquistion. These two have been on my wish list for a while, and when I saw it was being retired I had to jump on it: N61-Grapevine  and G106-grape cluster.

I have used white card stock as a base. A layer of green crinkle paper, plum cardstock and from the Core'dinations All in the Family-Sandy Tans Collection, a piece that is also scored to resemble a lattice type fence and then sanded it, and punched tthe top edge with EK Success punch (also used on the plum).  Sprectrum Noir alcohol markers in green and purple, and prismacolor pencils in Sepia and Burnt Ochre were used for color. I fancy cut the grapevine stamp, and grape clusters. Pop-dot foam bits from Stampin' Up for a little lift of the leaves and grapes.

As always there are prizes...here's what you need to know:
Prizes: We are giving away THREE $20 gift certificates to our website! We'll be giving away one gift certificate to a random participant (DT members not eligible) and then we'll also be giving away TWO gift certificates to TWO people who comment along the hop!
